You may have read in the media that weight loss injections can be prescribed by your GP from June 2025.
Whilst this is correct, the criteria to qualify is very strict.
It is forecast that there will be 220,000 patients UK-wide who will qualify.
Statistically, this means that only a small number of patients registered at Tudor Lodge will qualify for weight loss injections.
Given the current pressures on general practice and limited resources, we kindly request that appointments for weight loss injections are booked only for qualifying patients. This ensures we can prioritise access for those who are unwell and require a doctor’s care.
The criteria to qualify is as follows:
BMI of 40 or more. You can calculate your BMI here. (You will need your weight and height to find out your BMI). Your BMI will be checked at the appointment to confirm it is above 40. If it is not above 40, please do not book an appointment.
If BMI is above 40 then you will also need to have been diagnosed with four of the following five criteria
- Diagnosed hypertension
- Diagnosed sleep apnoea
- Diagnosed type 2 diabetes
- Diagnosed cardiovascular disease
- Diagnosed hypercholesterolemia
If you do not meet these criteria, please do not book a GP appointment for weight loss injections, as your GP will be unable to prescribe them for you (based on the current guidance).
